According to the Jeju Provincial Office of Education on Monday, five elementary school athletes and others canceled their plans to return home by air and will return to Jeju by ferry on the 29th, considering the anxiety caused by the accident they experienced just two days earlier.

In addition to those returning to Jeju by ship, 57 other athletes and leaders plan to fly to Jeju today as originally planned.
The provincial education office, along with more than 40 counseling agencies from the Ulsan City Office of Education and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, conducted initial psychological tests and interviews with all students and coaches aboard the crashed aircraft.
Counselors will provide telephone counseling to students and parents, and schools will provide face-to-face counseling.
Parents of these students will also be provided with support for psychological treatment.
In addition, the nine students and leaders who were treated at the hospital immediately after the plane landed on the 26th will be managed separately in conjunction with mental health specialists at Jeju University Hospital.
They will also be supported with trauma prevention and psychological and emotional stabilization measures through continuous close monitoring.
The plane crash occurred on an Asiana Airlines flight from Jeju to Daegu on the afternoon of Sept. 26.
Shortly before landing at Daegu Airport, the emergency exit door was opened by a man in his 30s at an altitude of 213 meters (700 feet).
The plane was carrying 65 elementary and middle school students and their leaders from Jeju Island who were traveling to the Boys’ Games in Ulsan.
A total of nine people, including eight athletes and one coach, who were seated relatively close to the open door, were taken to a hospital for treatment after complaining of nausea, vomiting, and tremors in their hands and feet.
