Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma broke the men’s 3,000m world record in indoor running.
Girma won the 3,000m men’s 3,000m event at the 2023 World Athletics Federation Indoor Tour Gold in Liebin, France, with a time of 7:23.81.
Girma’s time is a new world record, 1.09 seconds off the 7:24.90 set by Daniel Komen of Kenya in 1998.
Girma, whose main event is the 3,000m obstacle, won the silver medal in the 3,000m obstacle at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and placed second at the 2019 Doha and 2022 Eugene World Championships in a row.
