Kim Tae-won broke the team’s losing streak as the starting setter.
Sungkyunkwan University won a 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 15-12) set victory over Hanyang University in a qualifying match for the 2023 KUSF University Volleyball U-League at Sungkyunkwan University Gymnasium in Suwon, South Korea on Friday.
Prior to the match, Sungkyunkwan University found itself in an unfamiliar position on the leaderboard at No. 8 (1-3, 5-1). They were also in a losing streak, having lost back-to-back games after winning their first league match.
The bad news came in the form of a must-win match. Eddie (3rd, OH, 199cm) had to sit out for a while due to visa issues, and Bae (4th, MB, 198cm) suffered an ankle injury the day before the game.
Despite not having a full lineup, captain and starting setter Kim Tae-won (IV, S, 188cm) led the team to victory. She was desperate to end the losing streak.
After the game, Kim said, 메이저사이트 “It was so hard during the losing streak. I think we were not as eager as others. We had a meeting the night before and said we wanted to end the losing streak with more desire, and we were lucky to win.”
Sungkyunkwan University had to play back-to-back five-set matches against Kyung Hee University and now Hanyang University. There were times when the players’ concentration was distracted during the match, but the captain and main setter tried to stabilize the atmosphere on the court.
“The main goal was to end the losing streak, so I emphasized that we had to cherish each ball on the court,” says Kim Tae-won. Even though I wasn’t the best member of the team, I emphasized that even if the reception was difficult, I would play more.”
As mentioned earlier, Bae’s injury forced Sungkyunkwan University’s center, Bae Soon-hoo (sophomore, MB, 195 cm), to start for the first time since entering college. The substitution paid off. Bae Soon-hoo scored 12 points, including five blocks.
Kim Tae-won utilized Bae’s lack of analytical skills throughout the game. “I tried to use her whenever they let their guard down, and it worked well. Soon-hoo also thanked me for playing well despite her injury.”
Now that they have secured their first win in a long time, they hope to go even higher. In conclusion, Kim Tae-won said, “Now that we’ve broken our losing streak, we only have to go up. I will gather more strength and climb higher and show everyone a great game with no regrets.”
