The race for the title of South Korea’s starting striker is on.
The South Korean national soccer team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann, will face Peru on June 16 at the Busan Asiad Stadium and El Salvador on June 20 at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium. Ahead of the June A matches, Klinsmann announced the roster at the Shinseong-ro Soccer Hall on June 5.
The roster showed that Klinsmann’s colors were starting to emerge. It was a far cry from the World Cup roster in March, when he had little time to get to know the players and named the same roster to celebrate Paulo Bento’s success.
New faces like Jeju United’s Ahn Hyun-beom, KAA Hent’s Hong Hyun-seok, and Ulsan Hyundai’s Park Yong-woo were honored for the first time. There were a number of other changes, including the return of Son Jun-ho from detention in China, Kim Min-jae to the squad, and Kim Young-kwon and Jung Woo-young to the squad due to injury.
However, unlike the defenders and midfielders, the frontline attackers remained unchanged. Hwang Eui-jo, Oh Hyun-gyu, and Cho Kyu-sung 먹튀검증 were named to the team.
On the 5th, STN Sports asked Klinsmann directly about the reasons for the selection of the strikers and what gives them an advantage over other strikers. “There were players who scored more goals than the three, including in the K League, but we had criteria for selecting our strikers,” Klinsmann explained.
Klinsmann, a former world-class German striker with a keen eye for strikers, put his trust in the three strikers again.
“Sometimes everything is judged by goals, but I think the striker position is special. I watched the three of them and I felt good when they scored. I think they have a lot more to offer. Of course, there are times when strikers don’t score, but I also think it’s the responsibility of a coach to help them overcome that (to showcase their talent).”
